The 2025-26 Federal Budget, the fourth Budget by the current Federal Government and Treasurer Jim Chalmers, was delivered on Tuesday, 25 March. The key announcements included:
another Energy Bill Rebate of $150 for every household in the second half of 2025.
eligible small businesses will get the same $150 Energy Bill Rebate.
promised further income tax cuts, totalling $17 billion, in 2026-27 and 2027-28 (if the current government is re-elected).
$8.2 billion investment in Medicare to get to 90% of GP visits bulk billed by 2030.
20% of student loan debts will be wiped out over 4 years.
the Help to Buy scheme will be extended and a target of 1.2 million new home built to ease housing affordability and availability.
Interestingly, there was no mention of the Small Business $20,000 instant asset write-off scheme continuing beyond 30 June 2025. We'll keep an eye out for developments around that issue.
